With Harwell turning up with a point to prove after a heavy defeat the last time the two teams met they made their intentions very clear with a squad of over 20 players. With the start time moved to allow Wheatley to field a team kick off got under way. Harwell soon put wheatley under pressure, crossing the line early on. For some reason the Harwell forward chose to celebrate by head butting a purple shirt and earned himself a 10 minute rest on the touch line. This set the tone for the rest of the game as several (mostly unintentional) high tackles, kicks to the head and bruising runners came flying at the Wheatley players It felt more like 10 rounds of WWE Smackdown than a Saturday game of rugby. With both teams having a good share of the ball the first half ended 17 – 8 (roughly).
With Pete Evans hurting his shoulder Wheatley started the second half with their backs against the wall enduring heavy pressure from Harwell. After a break from their outside centre James Norton decided to knock him self unconscious attempting to prevent a try, whilst Kier Williams thought it was wise to injure his heavily strapped knee causing a double substitution. Unfortunately, like Mother hubbard’s cupboard, Wheatley’s bench was empty, Harwell lent us a player whilst they emptied their bench with a new (heavier) front row and full set of (quicker) backs.
After this Harwell Ran in lots of tries and scored plenty of points whilst Wheatley struggled on with 13. Credit to Harwells Pack they were all over the field spoiling every ball and getting to every break down before Wheatley. I can’t remember anything else as we got pounded.
