He doesn't really know what happened. Was he even there? Is his name Jake? None of this can be confirmed.

Thought I’d have a stab at it as no one else was, can guarantee that very little of this is true. In summary, there was some running, passing, tackling, rucking and mauling and Wheatley won 44-19. Feel free to edit it if you know who did score! Also, is that chaps name Jamie? Wasn’t really paying attention.

Despite having both teams at home today, Wheatley 2nds found themselves with a full changing room and a strange thing called “substitutions” (which we were later told are in fact “Interchanges”). The novelty of having 17-18 players soon wore off as it soon became clear that, yet again, most of these players were back row-ers and none were centres (apart from Jacob… Who played Full back), leaving Blommers and Jamie to adorn the number 12 and 13 shirts.

A short trip across the road to the 2nds pitch was classed as a warm up (unlike “those silly buggers” from Harwell who Pete decided were expending far too much energy) and Wheatley were soon receiving the kick off with the ever increasing wind on their backs. It’s at this time that my hangover started to kick my arse and so details became a bit sketchy but from what I can remember, Olly ran in two tries from the wing, Surm powered over, Gareth and Jamie probably scored (if not, they both deserved to) and Wheatley had a fairly comfortable lead going into half time without our defence ever really being tested. Matt then scored pretty much straight from the kick off and despite Harwell struggling to bring down the strong runs of Jimbo, Ted, Gareth, Jacob et al, the tide started to turn and Wheatley found themselves camped on their own 22 with the fierce wind playing havoc with the clearing kicks and causing Surm’s throws to take off at 90 degrees. Solid Harwell pressure eventually bore some fruits and they ran in 3 tries in what was definitely their half. Fortunately Wheatley’s first half dominance and a couple of breakaway tries in the 2nd half saw them through and with the sky looking ominous, the ref decided to call it a day, meaning the 2nds could get back in time to use all the hot water whilst the firsts finished their game in horizontal hail!

A solid 44-19 win moves Wheatley up to fifth in the league and are technically on an 8 game winning streak (or is that strak, Polly?). As recent results have shown, the 2nds are now starting to build up a very good squad would be at least 2nd in the league if we would have turned up to the 3 games we forfeited.

Thanks to all that turned up again but let’s keep putting out a squad and let’s keep winning.

(p.s Although there is no game this week, the firsts have a semi final at home AND the 6 nations kicks off so come to the club house to show you support and have a couple of drinks!)
