Pre match report Witney’s 4ths v Wheatley’s 2nd
The long wait is finally over with the first regular season fixture this Saturday. The men in purple are refreshed and ready with the added impetus of a new captain.
As they start their campaign for glory this season the 2nds face a all familiar side being on the road away against Witneys 4th team. Minds will be set on making it a 4th W in a row against their opposition. After dominating witney over the last three games the confidence levels are high around the team.
The familiar prop duo of Keir Williams and Maximilian Rustler-Burger *other microwave burgers are available* is joined by the veteran Joe Hyde as hooker.
The other two positions of the tight five are filled By Laurence “the tank” Watts and Jim Evans.
This must be one of the biggest front five in recent years for the 2nd team, they are joined by Fraser Petterson and Peter Evans and the reliable No.8 Jack ‘I haven't played since April’ Atkinson.
This fairly young pack, mainly due to the absence of Peter Ramsdale (65) are looking forward to play fast rugby to set the tone for the season.
The hard work in preseason with new line outs and cruel but effective drills to the props should see a improvement of speed at the line outs.
But enough of the strong man up the front, let's have a look at the two half-backs.:
With Luke Janes at 9 and George Turner at 10 the team is looking like it could combine the pack and the backs, if the weather allowes it.
Returning to the squad are a few young faces who came back early to take part in the start of an epic journey.
The half backs have to their disposal two speedster on the wings with Tavi and Rory.
In the Centers we have returning to the “most fun way to spend Saturdays” Rob and Charlie .
Rounding this starting team up at full back is well seasoned veteran David Thomas.
And incredibly there are substitutes that early in the season!
On the bench for the purple army we have Callum Jackson who will try and not get injured.
With this team the excitement for the season is large. You can feel the positive attitude all around the squad, which hopes to deliver once again a great season full of rugby, victorys and comradeship.
With the already mentioned new younger Team captain this year, he swears he is German despite his south African accent, Max, is filling the big shoes left.
All in all the 2s have been tasked with bringing glory to the club and the boys are keen to deliver as we all know beer taste better when you win.
