A fine start saw Wheatley, with the wind behind them, take a two try lead. Typical set piece domination meant Wheatley's backs consistently had a strong platform to work from and this was demonstrated by the first two tries, the first for Adam Muir, scored out wide and converted by Duncan Dingle, and the second scored by instrumental scrum half, Andy Tippet.
Risborough hit back, against the run of play to narrow the gap, but with the last play of the game, Wheatley new boy Will Alistair struck after a strong kick chase and scored under the posts. The misfiring Dingle missed the easiest conversion of the lot.
The second half kicked off and Wheatley knew their 14 point lead would be tough to keep, given the wind being against them, and from the off, they were under pressure. A poor kick-off return saw the normally imperturbable Danny Clarke panic and allow the opposition to put the visitors under instant pressure. This paid off and they scored under the posts.
With the wind behind them, Risborough continued to push Wheatley in to their own half with a series of long kicks, eventually, the tactic paid off and they once more scored under the posts. The scores going in to the last 20 minutes were tied at 19 apiece.
Following Wheatley's usual pack dominance, the Risborough scrum began to go back at a rate of knots. Wheatley's front row and super sub Nick Banton turning the screw and forcing penalties and turnovers won the boys in purple a penalty in front of the posts, kicking this put Wheatley up by 3, but with Risborough continuing to use their route one rugby, Wheatley still had work to do.
With 5 minutes left and the game still in the balance, captain Poochy dragged Wheatley up by the scruff of their necks with one of his trademark scything runs. With defenders hanging off him, he popped for James Pollard to power over the line, the defenders dazzled by his footwork and colourful boots. Dingle made the conversion, and with some fine defending to prevent Risborough getting any bonus points in the final throes, Wheatley picked up a 5 point win.
