Good win at home to keep the ball rolling.

Wheatley hosted Faringdon on a sunny Saturday for another top game in the BB&O Championship.

Faringdon decided they would play in their silver kit, rather than their manly pink kit, much to the disappointment of the swelling crowd at the Holton Playing Fields.

Kick off arrived and Wheatley went straight onto the offensive with the backs causing all sorts of problems for the Faringdon defence. However, it was not a back who scored Wheatley’s first try, but Nick Banton. This annoyed captain Poochos who claimed he was robbed of the ball by Nick. Robbie missed the conversion.

From the restart the backs, notable Sharkey, was again causing havoc with his runs and steals. However, Faringdon broke the Wheatley defence and Wheatley scrambled and managed to stop the attack but gave away a penalty for their troubles. This was in front of the posts and was successfully converted.

Big Jase had taken a while to come into the game, but when he found his stride he was soon punching holes in the Faringdon line. After a line out or scrum and a passage of play big Jase finally got his reward with crashing over for Wheatley’s second try. The conversion was missed again.

Half time Wheatley 10 Faringdon 3.

The second half arrived which seemed to involve more shouts of WATER than line out calls.

Wheatley again went straight on the attack with using our fast backs. This was opening up the Faringdon defence, but Wheatley could not find that last pass which would have resulted in many more tries. A little white line fever may have spreading through the team.

The game trundled on with the forwards playing the smash and bash game. The Backs became bored of this passage of play with the forwards being camped in the Faringdon half, so spent the time making sure their hair was good for the camera. Again Wheatley could not turn the possession and territory into points.

Big Jase was again on the attack, but rather than doing the classic boshing he does best, he attempted to step a player. This was not a good idea as it resulted in an injury and the end of his game. Play continued and Adam managed again to break the Faringdon line again, but this time he scored under the post. Robbie managed to convert the extras (just).

Faringdon did not take kindly in being 17 – 3 down and started to make ground into the Wheatley half. With play now firmly in the Wheatley 22 Josh made a last ditch tackle but in the confusion found himself on the floor with a maul passing over him. Wheatley managed to turn over the ball which ended up in Jack Smith’s hands and with the screams of clear it, Jack put his boot trough the ball, which went straight into Faringdon’s 10 who was stood 3 feet in front of Jack. Faringdon then started to work the ball across the Wheatley defensive line. The ref blew for a penalty for something and Faringdon took it quick and winged the ball to the full back who only had Nick Banton to walk past to go over the line.

The game restarted but there was not much happening apart from the occasional pass, ruck and tackle.

The game ended with a good win for Wheatley.
