The purple men produced a mature performance to see out a 1 point win

Wheatley over come the odds to take the victory over Gosford All Blacks at Holton,

A much changed Wheatley side produced a gutsy performance to over come the former southern counties outfit. However with only one change in the pack Wheatley were able to build on last weeks victory to out muscle the Gosford pack. from the outset the purple men set the tone recycling quick ball aided by veteran scrum half Jeremy Tanner combative and aggressive style, inside 5 minutes Wheatley were up 7 pints with James Neal breaking the defensive line and putting Simon Chadbone in under the posts with Jordan Hook adding the conversion.

Gosford his back 5 minutes later with some poor first up tackling allowing Gosford over the line, 7-7

Jeremy Tanner was next on the score sheet with Wheatley bombarding the visitors line it was only a matter of time before poor discipline would cost Gosford a penalty, opting to scrummage Wheatley had Gosford in all kinds of trouble with Alex Gabbidon continuing to put his opposite number under pressure again a penalty was awarded, Quick thinking tanner took the tap, with bodies crashing up Gosford eventually ran out of defenders with Tanner able to snipe over from close range. conversion missed 12-7

Poor discipline from Wheatley gave Gosford a let off allowing them back u the field and eventually a shot a goal inferno of the posts bringing the game back to touching distance, 12-10

The remainder of the half remainder score less with Wheatley able to keep the All Blacks at bay despite being reduced to 14 men with Simon Chadbone in the sinn bin after being harshly yellow carded for not avoiding the player on the quick tap!

Half Time.

More poor discipline from Wheatley allowed Gosford to take the lead for the first time in the match adding 2 further penalties to give them a score cushion entering the final 10 minutes 12-16 unperturbed Wheatley found inner strength to head back down to the visitors 5 meter and execute a precision lineout and drive over for Pete Mitchell to score with the conversion missed.

Wheatley now had to remain calm and hold out for 5 minutes, and that they did, a cool and collective display saw Wheatley take ultimate control playing down the clock and seeing out the final whistle and grabbing the 4 points.

What a performance to dig out that win is a testament to how far this team has come that combined with the youth on display Wheatley are in a great place at the moment with the Outlaws sitting top of the league after Chinnor could not raise a team and the 3rd team waiting in the wings.

Bring on Hungerford and Abingdon next week.
