Wheatley enjoyed much of the possession but struggled to cope with the visitors set piece

Wheatley set out their stall with a pretty stubborn defensive display with much of the game being played in-between the twi 10 meter lines,

It was poor discipline that led to the first try, not rolling away gave quick thinking Chesham wing Nick Jones an opportunity to tap and go with the purple men giving a free right of passage having not retired the required 10 metres, Will Goodes adding the conversion. 7-0

On the 12th minute Wheatley were on the receiving end of some good fortune having allowed Nick Jones space to run and going under to the posts, fortunately for Wheatley the ref baddest seen the linesman put his flag up and returned to the halfway fro the subsequent line out.
Wheatley were hit for 3 more points shortly afterwards having agains conceded a penalty with poor breakdown discipline, Tom Hirst adding 3 points, 0-10.

The Chesham pack were functioning well with the scrum in-particular giving Wheatley plenty of problems, the home team were on the back foot most of the afternoon with Simon Chadbone and Hugo Stanford-Tuck having their work cutout in producing any playable ball. Having said that Wheatley were still able to produce the lions share of the chances with Dad Rule picking up a loose ball after Chesham seemingly struggling to cope with the pressure heaped onto them with the the defensive line, Dan scooped up the ball from the 22 ignited the after burners and was able to round the defence to score under the posts with Aaron Laman adding the conversion. 7-10.

Chesham soon hit back with probably their best play of the game, some great interplay and a neat inside ball gave Will Goodes another try out wide but he was unable to convert on this occasion. 7-15

After the interval Wheatley upped their game considerably starting to move the ball around and causing real problems to the Chesham defensive arrangement, Jordan Hook benefitted, with the ball moving wide Jordan was able to round his opposite number and score out wide with Aaron missing the conversion 12-15

Wheatley however slipped back in to trouble at the breakdown, allowing Chesham a soft 3 points, after not rolling away for the third time in the afternoons play. 12-18,

Undeterred, Wheatley hit back pretty much straight away, putting Chesham under pressure from the re-start, Wheatley were dominant with the ball moving between forwards and backs with ease, Wheatley were deep in the opposition half with the ball finding its self nestled under Jordans arm, Hook still with plenty to do found another gear evaded some flaling arms and boshed his way over out wide with Aaron adding the extras to put Wheatley in the lead for the first time in the afternoon. 19-18.

Wheatley however allowed ill discipline to cost them, this time with Jack Smith judged to have been a tad high in the tackle giving Chesham field position, despite some stanch defending and Wheatley holding the man up over the line it was Chesham that were awarded the penalty, they opted for the scrum on this occasion Wheatley held there own but were unable to halt the Chesham skipper Nick Jones from crashing over, giving Tom Hist an easy shot at posts, 19-25

Wheatley did have time to create a further chance but were unable to get the ball into space and ultimately turned the ball over allowing Chesham to play out the clock.

It was a great game played in the spirit of rugby, both sides fell foul of some questionable officiating but it was 2 pretty evenly matched sides Wheatley will feel there is more to come as the season gathers momentum and players return.
