Wheatley hosted Aldermaston in the BBO Championship on Saturday coming off the back of 2 successive defeats to Littlemore and Oxford respectively, having several first team regulars sidelines through injury Wheatley were able to take some heart for having

Wheatley took the kick off determined to set an early pace and move Aldermarston's big pack around the park it wasn’t to long before a scrum deep in the visitor half delivered quick ball and quick hands from number 8 Jack Atkinson to Jack Taylor saw the later dot down in the corner. 5-0 Jack Taylor taking over the kicking duties from the injured Aaron Laman saw his first attempt slip through the uprights 7-0

Wheatley continued to dominate possession and push to extend the lead, Nick Banton prominent in the loose it came as a blow to see him leave the field with a dislocated shoulder, an injury that will surely see him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

After reshuffling the pack the subsequent scrum saw Wheatley move the ball across the back line for Joe Taylor to slip in in the corner.
12-0 Jack Taylor missing the conversion

More of the same from the home team this time building phases and turning slow ball into an attacking threat saw slick interplay between both forwards and backs with makeshift second row Simon Chadbone putting full back Jordan Hook through a gap to open his account 17-0 conversion missed

Within 4 minutes Hook had his name on the score sheet once more again playing from first phase, quick hands were the victor with the entire back line involved notably Josh Hillsdon demonstrating great awareness to set Jordan Hook free to collect his brace. 22-0 conversion missed.

The next 20 minutes proved to be fairly barren for Wheatley with Aldermaston able to capitalise on all to frequent infringement at the breakdown and Wheatley struggling to understand the officials interpretation of the new tackle law. Wheatley found themselves having to defend their line, but defend they did and eventually were able to clear their lines and move back up field.

Pressure on the Aldermaston defensive eventually saw them concede a penalty at he breakdown a quick tap and go from scrum half Jack Taylor caught the defence napping and a wide pass to Joe Hobdell saw Josh Hillsdon in space and he was to show a clean pair of heels and score out wide. 27-0 Jack Taylor with the conversion 29-0

Half time 29-0

It was 13 minutes before Wheatley opened the second half scoring coming after several phases of patient play Andy Willis was able to open up the defensive line and wriggle his way over under the posts Jack Taylor adding the extras 36-0 from the resulting kick off Wheatley moved the ball to Willis who opened up the defence an a quick ball wide saw Josh Hillsdon add a second to his tally 39-0 Jack now finding his range was able to convert from in front of posts 43-0

The try of the game cam from Andy Willis with a sweetly executed lineout and quick off the top ball saw Jack Taylor able to break down field and Andy changing the angle of attack and bamboozle the scrambling defence glide in un opposed, Jack somehow putting the subsequent conversion 30 ft wide! 48-0

Eager to make a mens Jack Taylor was able to pick up a loose ball from an unusually scrappy scrum offer a show and go and slip under the posts to add the second of what would be his hat trick, opting to go for the drop goal as the kicking tee had not been his friend for much of the afternoon. 55-0

With no time left on the clock and to the visitors credit they were determined to cross the whitewash Wheatley found themselves under the cosh and on the wrong side of several penalty decisions, Wheatleys defensive line pressed hard forcing an error, Jack Taylor picked up the loose ball and put in a lung busting 80 yard sprint to score under the posts, with his lungs still burning Jack handed the kicking duties to Jordan Hook, Jordans effort sturuck the upright 60-0

Final Score 60-0

Wheatley showed that this is the level they can perform at and with moving the ball quickly there is real opportunity for the pace we have out wide, its a big blow to be without the experience of Nick Banton for whats sure to be the remainder of the season we wish I’m a speedy recovery, onward next week sees Wheatley travel to Shirehall to conclude the normal league campaign looking forward to the challenges the play offs offer
