Wheatley laid down the marker from the off with strong tackling and demonstrating a physical presence at every opportunity. This was seemingly too much for Oxford and the relentless pressure soon caused early mistakes from the young oxford back line.
It was from an early penalty that Wheatley were able to pin the corner with a deep kick. From the resulting lineout Wheatley were able to drive over for a try, with Cailin Taylor the benefactor for 5-0. Laman Missed the conversion
Wheatley continued to dominate the set piece with tight head prop Alex Gabbidon dominant and Wheatley’s defence held strong for large periods of the first half, frequently gaining territory without the ball More speedy work at the breakdown from Bland and Taylor lead to further penalties from Oxford and Laman added a further 6 points. 11-0
More pressure from Wheatley again resulted in a penalty on the visitors 10 meter line and Laman was able to peg the visitors back into the corner, however on this occasion Oxfords defence held seeing out the half. 11-0
The second half Wheatley's backs began to dictate the pace of play with wingers Jordan Hook and Adam Muir a continuous threat.
It was after some slick handling from both forwards and backs that lead to the home side's seconds try, neat interplay from Jack Taylor and Caillin Taylor (Not brothers) that saw Adam Muir emerge in some space and was able to drive over for 5.16-0 with Laman adding the extras for 18-0
Wheatley were now breaking the defensive line at will, beginning to gain confidence with centre Sanda Mapanza and fly half Andy Willis both prominent.
Wheatley were reduced to 10 men after substitute Simon Chadbone was harshly adjudged to have kicked out towards the opposition scrum half, this did not dent Wheatley's confidence as they continued to threaten and with some quick handling from the base Adam Muir again found space and was able to grab his brace. 23-0 Laman converted 25-0
Wheatley now back to 15 were still in the ascendance and heaping pressure on the Oxford line were rewarded a penalty. Wheatley chose to scrummage and went for the pushover. Stopped just short, Wheatley shipped the ball wide and quick thinking number 8 Jack Atkinson was able to pounce on the loose ball and secure the bonus point win. 30-0 Laman shaved the post but unfortunately the wrong side. Full Time 30-0
Wheatley demonstrated more creativity this week, with forwards and backs interplaying well. Confidence grew with the score line and although Wheatley are looking forward to playing a friendly against Brookes this Saturday it is a frustration that they cannot take this momentum forward in the BBO Championship.
