With the last match of the season looming ever nearer Wheatley ended the only way they saw fit with rabbel of players showing up to the club house. By some form of miracle we had 17 players and a 5 minute warm up. However, this was over shadowed as Abingdon had a 25 man squad that had been warming up since 1.15
With a record crowd for the season eagerly awaiting for the whistle to blow the 20 strong spectators were in for a whirlwind of a day. Literally.
Wheatley kicked to Abingdon to get the game under way and dominated the majority of the half with a converted try to show for it. There were 2 missed penalties by both sides as the weather deteriorated massively and both thought of themselves as the next Johnny Wilkinson. The biggest talking point of the half was a sensational 90m run by Olly Tyson over the Abingdon try line. For reasons I cannot describe the try wasn't scored and you will have to ask Olly for the reasoning why.
Abingdon started the second half the stronger side and put two early runs in over Wheatleys white line. Abingdons kicker continued to attempt to kick penalties but the Rugby Gods decided to increase the wind and rain just for the fun of it. With Olly deciding to try and put things right, he made a surging run through several players to go in under the posts. Harry decided to follow suit and went over for a further 5 points just minute after.
In the dying minutes Abingdon turned the screw and went over for the final try of the game and the final whistle on Wheatleys season.
