Another comprehensive victory for the boys in purple

Wheatley visited top of the table Abingdon in what was sure to be a tough game. After a series of easy wins for Wheatley, they knew they had to step up their game.

Unfortunately, the start was not quite to Wheatley's plan. Following a defensive line out in the Abingdon half, the Abingdon backs pulled a winger inside and cut through the Wheatley defensive line to end up going in under the posts. This was the wake up call Wheatley needed, and they answered the call to arms with aplomb.

From the restart, Wheatley got in the home side's half and worked their way up. Despite giving away a series of needless penalties, they found their way in to the Abingdon 22 and following a rolling maul off a line out, the Wheatley back row worked together to dart over the line.

Wheatley weren't done there, fly half Adam Muir danced and dived his way through about 8 tackles to score under the posts, despite taking a serious knock to the head and needing to go off, and centre Sean O'Leary powered through to score, before half time.

The home side managed to score one more before half time to finish the half 12-19 to the visitors.

Wheatley started the second half strongly and instantly earned a try through a kick and chase, again O'Leary the try scorer.

However, for the next 30 minutes, Abingdon put the visitors defence to the sword. A constant barrage in attack was repelled by Wheatley, despite Abingdon gaining a superiority in the scrum, although not the line out. Wheatley were up for the fight and strong work at the breakdown and line outs slowly took the game away from the hosts.

With the game, and the chance of a bonus slipping away from them, Wheatley added to their agony by going over for one final try, once again, Muir jinking his way through the defence.

Wheatley finished off the game against a demoralised home side and closed the gap at the top of the table to 1. If only Wheatley had turned up at the start of the season, they would comfortably be top.

Tries, Muir 2, O'Leary 2, Clarke 1

Cons, Muir 3
