With 6 front row starting Wheatley pick up bonus point win

Wheatley produced their finest on the road performance of the season with a 41-22 victory over BBO Prem rivals Bletchley, Wheatley with no less than 5 front row in their starting 15 adapted the usual expansive game plan to produce a fine workman like performance scoring six tries along the way.

Wheatley set the tone from the outset with Jordan Hook chasing the kick off to apply defensive pressure and forcing Bletchley to make mistakes giving the purple men opportunity to demonstrate their set piece dominance early on however it was Bletchley who opened the scoring on 11 minutes with Wheatley's ill discipline at the breakdown costing them early on.

Wheatley undeterred dusted themselves down and with a new game plan hit back with in 2 minutes with a Josh Hillsdon try bourn from some phase play that eventually saw the ball shift wide and with some slick hands found Josh in space allowing him to round the hime sides defence to score with Aaron Laman adding the extras 3-7

Try Time Josh Hillsdon is back on the score sheet with this well finished try

Wheatley from the restart again set targets, trucking up in to the heart of the Bletchley defence were deemed to have knocked on at the breakdown the resulting scrum saw Wheatley push over the top of the Bletchley scrum and number 8 Simon Chadbone scoop up the ball and unleash Jack Taylor only to be called back by the referee on safety grounds, Wheatley didn't have to wait long before another opportunity presented it self, with a scrum just outside the 22 again Simon Chadbone wound back the years to pick and go from the base of the scrum leaving the Bletchley blindside standing a well timed pass left Jack and Joe Taylor little to do to cross the white wash and add a second to the visitors account 3-12 Aaron Laman coming agonisingly close with the kick hitting the upright from out wide.

Wheatley had to ride out a period of Bletchley attack for the preceding 10 minutes but with the now customary purple wall functioning well it was inevitable that a mistake would happen and the ball turned over with Wheatley first to react to the loose ball, without panic Wheatley set about the disorganised defensive line with the ball finding its self out wide with Sanda Mpanza able to bater the door down to score outside, Aaron Laman producing a fine kick 3-19.

Now we have seen Wheatley get themselves into this commanding position on more than one occasion this season only to take their foot off the gas and allow the opposition back into the game this occasion was no different! Wheatley's discipline around the breakdown began to let them down and lead to frustration with several of the officials decisions and for the next 10 minutes leading up to the half Wheatley allowed this lack of focus to put them under pressure. on their own line Wheatley's usually staunch defence was on this occasion breached, and with the official seemingly unsighted she was able to award a try that was clearly held up by Jack Taylor's chest between the ball and the ground unfortunately Simon Chadbone's frustration boiled over with the official not entirely in agreement with his assessment of the situation with Chadbone asked to take some quiet time to reflect on his actions. conversion added 8-19

HALF TIME

Bletchley smelt blood at the restart applying pressure from the outset and again finding a penalty on the visitors five, with Wheatley not retreating to the required distance Bletchley were offered a second bite of the cherry, Wheatley were still struggling to organise defensively this saw the big running forwards of Bletchley able to crash over from short distance with the conversion giving them the momentum leading into the second half, 15-19

With Wheatley back up to fifteen and in the home teams 22 great line out work from Joe Hobdell gave Wheatley a foot hold in the game with strong running from Alex Gabbidon and Pete Mitchell Wheatley were able to turn at will unfortunately Alex Gabbidon turned the ball over letting Bletchley off the hook momentarily only for the ball to be knocked on giving Wheatley the scrum, Wheatley again chose to pick and go with Chadbone's fresh legs able to break the gain line and unleash the back line, neat interplay saw Toby Butler break free and put Jack Taylor over for an unconverted try 15-24.

A stalemate ensued with the play remaining on the half way line for the next 7 minutes with Bletchley eventually able to break through scoring out wide with a converted try 22-24 Wheatley took time to take stock and having been in this position on more than one occasion were determined to prove the doubters wrong and add a little more ruthlessness to their game. presented with a penalty wheatley opted to extend their lead with Aaron slowing the penalty 22-27.

A minute later it was Jordan hook who found himself with plenty to do but with this spaghetti like frame he was able weave his way through the flailing defence to score out wide with Arron adding the conversion 22-34 Wheatley continued to press but were unable to break the now resolute Bletchley defence, Wheatley brought on some fresh legs with Pete Evans and Dave Thomas replacing Simon Chadbone and Sanda Mpanza, Dave Thomas's first touch of the ball saw him cross the line after several phases sucked in the home sides defence and gave Dave the space out wide with Aaron again adding to the scoreboard total 22-41.

Wheatley rode out the remainder of the game safely and sealed a well earned win, Wheatley seemingly turning a corner and are now able to seize the opportunities and collect the win on the road.

Great team performance with many people putting their hands up for mom special mention to all those playing out of position and all those who turned up to support the boys and help out on the day

Great work fellas

With only 2 games to play We could still finish 3rd but next weekends game against Chesham is a key fixture and only winning will give us the opportunity to so.
