Despite putting together a industrious first half Wheatley were left disappointed conceding a 17 point lead.

Pete Mitchell getting his eye in

Wheatley were firing on all cylinders at the kick off giving the visitors little time to settle and within two minutes were on the scoreboard with Aaron Laman slotting a penalty for a high tackle, 3-0 Hight tackles were to become a team of the afternoon with both teams struggling with the referees interpretation of the law,

Both teams were looking to establish a rhythm in the game and were pretty evenly matched despite Littlemore's size advantage they were unable to break the purple wall as the Wheatley defence stood hard, on 10 minutes however a well worked set piece allowed Littlemore speedster Arron Ward space to move and some poor tackling allowed him to go over in the corner for an unconverted try 3-5

Wheatley were dealt a blow shortly after with line out lynch pam Matt Gibb forced to leave the field with a dead leg leading to Wheatley having to make changes to a pretty makeshift pack with James Butler coming on at 8 and Simon Chadbone moving to Lock. On the quarter hour mark Laman added another 3 points as Wheatley's dominate of the breakdown continued and forcing Littlemore to illegally slow the ball, 6-5

More flowing rugby from Wheatley again saw Littlemore unable to adapt to the quick play and again the visitors were penalised at the breakdown for what was becoming pretty repetitive offending and allowed Aaron to ad 3 more points 9-5, Despite the frequency of breakdown offences it was Wheatley who were dealt the first yellow card with Joe Taylor given 10 minutes for an adjudged high tackle, with Littlemore opting to go for the corner Wheatley's defensive maul was to much for the Littlemore pack, Wheatley forced the error and were awarded the scrum put in, Wheatley now tanking stock settled the ship with some good controlled rugby, With another scrum on their 22 Wheatley's scrum half Jack Taylor exit strategy provided him with an opportunity to out fox the Littlemore defensive line and gave him a 75 meter run in to the line with Laman adding the extra, 16-5.

With Wheatley now functioning at full steam the subsequent re-start saw a fine try go unrewarded, Quick hands from Simon Chadbone allowed fullback Jordan Hook to ignite the afterburners and run hard at the defensive line, Hook seemingly glided his way to the 22 before being stupid but great support play allowed the ball to be moved quickly, a deft chip from Jack Taylor gave the ascending Aaron Laman the ball to chase, a favourable bounce saw him score in the corner, only for the ref to call the play back as opposed to looking for the advantage.

All was not lost Wheatley opted for the corner and a fine maul saw second row Jack Atkinson over, Laman missing the conversion, 21-5.

Half Time

Within seconds of the re-start a re-energised Littlemore emerged, not looking to move the ball outside of 10 and crashing up at every opportunity. Littlemore crashed over Luke Ward for a converted try 21-12

More play of a similar style saw the Littlemore 8 go over another try with the Wheatley defence unable to organise 21-17, Wheatley were once again reduced to 14 with Jack Taylor harshly penalised for a late tackle, some more poor defending allowed Littlemore space and a further try 21-22

On the 75th minute Littlemore were awarded a penalty for a breakdown offence allowing the visitors a further 3 points 21-25

Wheatley did muster a final onslaught but were left frustrated with the ball being allowed to be kicked into touch from a free kick to close out the game.

Yet another week that could have been but on this occasion a full 80 minute performance could have seen Wheatley demonstrate their full potential we could have seen a Littlemore crumble we move on to next weeks cup game eager to prove our worth.
