Wheatley fought back to take a 44-25 victory at Hungrford after trailing 22-21 at half time

Tale of two Half's as Wheatley pick a 5 point away win.

Wheatley came out of the blocks with intent from the first whistle giving the Berkshire side little time to settle, however it was Hungerford who were rewarded a penalty infant of posts for a infringement at the breakdown, 3-0

Wheatley continued to apply and on the 20 minute mark slick hands from the Wheatley back line saw Sanda Mpanza break free and cross the white wash with Laman adding the extras, 3-7 Hungerford hit straight back with 2 tries of their own, converting one 15-7

Wheatley remains calm and began to build phases and carrying the ball deep into the oppositions half, hard graft from the forwards paid off building a platform and eventually exhausting the home sides defence, Aaron Laman was able to snipe his way over for a try of his own, conversion added, 15-14

This seemed to ignite Hungerford and saw them have their strongest period of play Hitting back with a converted try of their own and James Butler yellow carded for a hight tackle 22-14

Undeterred Wheatley began to dominate the possession and territory and with the linnet and scrum functioning well the pressure on the defence had to give, it was from a scrum 10 yards off the Hungerford try line that Dan Bland was able to charge down an attempted clearance kick to touch down with Laman adding the conversion 22-21

Half Time

Wheatley now playing with the slope, were forced to re-organise with Pete Mitchel leaving the field injured, Fraser Petterson stepping into the front row, Wheatley rode out the Hungerford attack only conceding a penalty in what was proved to be the only breach of the second half, 25-21

Wheatley began to up the intensity in both attack and defence and were beginning to dominate every facet of play, moving the ball quickly wide saw Dan Rule in space and able to stretch his legs to go over for 5 points, with Laman converting 25-28.

More points followed with the Hungerford defence and sixes and sevens trying to deal with the offensive onslaught, a penalty from Aaron Laman saw Wheatley extended their lead, 25-31

Dan Rule was again given space to run and out paced the defensive line to dot down with a converted try, 25-38.

The final try came from Josh Hillsdon after some good line out work that saw some sublime mauling gather momentum Wheatley were able to recycle quick ball for Josh to score out wide. 25-45

Great determination and intensity shown by Wheatley and rewarded with some great tries, set piece functioned well and provided platform for the backs to play,

MOM Sanda Mpanza

Mentioned in dispatches Dave Thomas stepped up well and provided an impenetrable last line of defence, James Neal, James Butler good work rate, Dan Bland a constant threat at the breakdown.
