Wheatley left needing a Little more for the second time this season.

Wheatley will feel frustrated after Saturday's BBO Championship defeat to unbeaten Littlemore after gifting the league leaders 7 points,

Wheatley set out their stall early doors with a pacy direct approach and it wasn't long before their persistence paid off as the ever present second row partnership of Nick Banton and Matt Gibb linked up well. In an uncharacteristic error, Banton missed the tackled Littlemore player's body with his boot and instead made contact with the ball, hacking the ball out the back of the ruck. A freshly Lucozaded Matt Gibb was on hand to pursue the loose ball and combining the pace of Usain Bolt and the deft footwork of George Best, managed to outpace the retreating defence and toe poke the ball across the line to open the scoring, 5-0 Laman added the extras, 7-0

Wheatley remained encamped in the Littlemore half for much of the first half but too often let the visitors off the hook as too often the ball knocked on or the extra man was overlooked when in attack,

The decisive moment came with a Wheatley scrum on the home sides 10 meter line. A reasonable platform gave Jack Atkinson the opportunity to execute his classic 8-9 pickup, a move which has borne fruits many times before. Today was not one of those times. After tying up the Littlemore 7 and 9, a quick back hand pop to the Littlemore 10 followed, who ran in unopposed under the posts, leaving Atkinson asking some important life questions. 7-5 and the 13 added 2 7-7,

Wheatley lost centre Iain Downer with 2 broken fingers on the half hour mark causing Wheatley to re-shuffle, bringing the returning Andy Willis into the 10 slot and Jack Taylor moving outside to 12,

To add insult to injury Littlemore added 3 more points via a penalty for an infringement at the breakdown.

Wheatley finished the half with 14 men after persistent offside led to Jack Taylor seeing yellow.

Half Time 7-10

The second half started badly as Wheatley lost scrum half and top scorer Arron Laman early in the second half to a medial knee ligament injury causing Wheatley to reshuffle once more with back row James Neal moving to Jack Taylor's centre spot.

Despite their losses, Wheatley came out with the same mind set in the second half with Dan Bland prominent at the breakdown, yet despite wave after wave of Wheatley attack the Littlemore defence stood firm,

Wheatley may feel a little aggrieved that more stern action wasn’t taken against the persistent side entry at the breakdown in the red zone but nevertheless Wheatley weren’t perturbed in attack twice crossing the whitewash only to be denied for an forward pass and a unseen grounding of the ball,

Littlemore's only real attack came off the back of a strong scrummage but a fine scramble defensive display saw Fraser Petterson put in a try saving tackle,

Wheatley continued to press the visitors line up to the final whistle, and with a win the only result in their eyes, opted not to take a shot at goal on three occasions.

full time 7-10

Wheatley will reflect on this game and although be disappointed with the final result the overall performance was one of there finest of the season, work rate around the park, at the breakdown and the set pieces all reflective of the high standards Wheatley are striving to deliver.
