Farring-Done... Again

Wheatley signed off 2016 with a win beating a resilient Farringdon 24-10 in testing conditions

With Christmas party season in full swing, A much changed Wheatley took to the field and laid down their intentions right from the start immediately setting up camp in the Farringdon 5 meter line. To Farringdon's credit they displayed the strongest defence Wheatley have had to face this season keeping the visitors at bay for much of the first half.

It was on the 20 minute mark that the deadlock was broken with the Wheatley pack delivering a fine scrummage from which Joe Hobbdell was able run a hard line through the unusually solid defensive line and under the post. 5-0 Aaron Laman added the conversion 7-0

Wheatley continued to probe the home sides defensive line but again it stood fast. Wheatley conceded a penalty and allowed Farringdon to get off the mark. 7-3

More pressure from From Wheatley saw Farringdon concede several penalties, but Wheatley couldn't create any opportunities to score. Eventually skipper Alex Acklam opted for the shot at goal Laman converted 10-3

Again Wheatley got into the 22 and again the penalties came but the defence stood hard.

Half time 10-3

By the start if the second half the fog had descended and conditions had really deteriorated but Wheatley applied more structure to the attack with front rowers Mitchell and Acklam carrying well it wasn't long before space opened up and Iain Downer was able to cross the white wash 15-3 Laman added the kick 17-3

Wheatley lost both Mpanza and Banton to injury but with a shuffle of the pack Wheatley were able to re organise and continue to press.

More phase play again saw the space open up and Again Iain downer was the beneficiary adding a second to his tally 22-3 Laman added the extras 24-3

Wheatley looking for the bonus point lost some discipline which allowed Farringdon a rare foray in to the Wheatley half this allowed Farringdon a sniff of the line, they added a converted try 24-10.

This was a much changed Farringdon side from earlier in the season and the small pitch and tough conditions certainly didn't do Wheatley any favours however credit where credits due Farringdon had a game plan and they stuck to it and produced an impressive defensive display

Wheatley finish the year on a high and eagerly awaiting Blueboar in the shield semi.
