Wheatley XV Showed How its done.

After A solid performance against Crowthorne, Wheatley now had the more important match to play! Although it was still a friendly it had the biggest prize at stake… This was for pride and bragging rights for the season ahead.
They kicked off with Wheatley taking a strong start using the lightning pace of the backs to their advantage, of which the chairman’s team just couldn’t cope. After a brilliant turn of pace from Seb, Fido was through the line, after which there was no stopping him. Wheatley had taken the lead.
After a not so inspirational team talk from Pete Ramsdale, the Classics remembered how to play rugby and started to put up a fight against the dominance of Wheatley. With the Chairman’s team experience on their side they opted for a forwards game using the rucks and mauls to their advantage. This lead to their first try of the afternoon. A strong rolling maul which was never being stopped.
After some tactical substitutions from Peter. Suddenly Wheatley found themselves facing a real life giant! In the form of Ben Kelsey, The worlds strongest man (u105Kg). As soon as they could Chairman’s XV got the ball into Kelsey’s hands. Most of the Wheatley players shielded away from tackling the man mountain but not our own long haired wonder Alfie Wood who went in for the challenge… but bounced off without slowing Ben. 4 players later and he was stopped. Gav Belcher had a surprising break through the Wheatley’s defensive line off the ruck, before being stopped by a simple tap of the ankles from a diving Captain Poochos, much to his delight.
Half time came, Wheatley held a one try lead and were not about to let that go.
When the second half came Wheatley seemed unstoppable, until a shock try came after Caddie broke the line in his own half and ran the length of the pitch to score. This would prove to be Wheatley weakest moment of the afternoon.
Wheatley responded strongly. After a poor clearance from the wheatley 22 Alfie gave chase, a brilliant piece of footballing skill later and he was over the line to put wheatley firmly ahead.
The Last try of the match came from a superb piece of running play from Wheatley’s winger Jack Smith which again came from Seb’s stunning decision making at 12. Jack stepped past Kelsey, Gav and the to top it off stepped inside once more around Sam Butler to score under the posts.

All in it was a strong day at the office for Wheatley’s 15 that are set to upset a lot of teams in their newly promoted position in the BBO Premier League.
Try scorers:
Adam Muir , Jack Smith x2, Seb Wilson , Andy Tippet, Alfie Wood
Coversions from Duncan Dingle.
