Wheatley and the surrounding villages mourn the passing of a former captain

An exceptional player and life and soul of any party
- Peter Ramsdale

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Joe Hopcroft, one of the stalwarts of Wheatley rugby in the 1980s and 90s. Joe captained the first team in the first year that we played in a league and it was down to his exceptional leadership and ability as a flanker that we were undefeated and won that 1990/91 league handsomely.

As well as being an exceptional player Joe was also to be found leading the drinking and singing after games and was always the life and soul of the party…...great times!

Joe leaves a wife, Adrienne and three daughters and they will be in the thoughts of everyone associated with Wheatley Rugby at this difficult time.

Joe’s funeral will be held at Worminghall Church at 11am on Friday the 2nd of March.

Rest in Peace Joe.

- Peter Ramsdale , Chairman
